The Reasons To Make A Cross Country Move to Minneapolis

I cannot say that I love or like my city. The best word to describe my feelings for Minneapolis is - adore. No matter what happens, I could never leave my “Mini Apple”. It’s a beautiful place with so much to see and do. Are you considering moving to Minneapolis? If so, I would like to introduce you better to my city.
Minneapolis is known among its residents as the “Twin Cities”. Wait, isn’t Minneapolis just one city? Good question. The name “Twin Cities” is used to refer to the whole metropolitan area, which actually includes two distinct cities - Minneapolis and St. Paul. The other one is capital of the state Minnesota, just for you to know.

Minneapolis Weather

Most people know that Minneapolis is cold, but what they do not know is that the locals found a way to overcome this weather barrier. The first rule is to dress in layers, at least six of them. How are you going to take them all off is unimportant for now. Concentrate only on surviving the cold. If you go to work by car, be prepared to spend an extra ten minutes on making it start. And what if it doesn’t? Don’t worry. There is a brilliant solution for you to stay warm. The magic word: Skyway! You can go to work, school, favorite restaurant or cafe, shopping, without having ever having to go outside. And we are not talking just about the places located a few blocks away. A large part of the city is covered with this indoor pedestrian walkway system that links countless downtown buildings. In fact, Minneapolis Skyway is the longest continuous skyway system in the world, spanning 69 blocks and seven miles. To find out more about it, click here .
Let’s get back to the weather. The lowest temperature ever recorded here was −41 °F (−41 °C) in January 1888. About 8.2 feet (250 cm) of snow fell during the winter of 1983–84. Okay, you get it, it’s cold. But believe me, cold winters should not be the reason to buy moving boxes and prepare moving supplies and go to warmer climates. Minneapolis also has very warm summers. The warmest one so far was in July 1936 with a record of 108 °F (42 °C).
In Minneapolis, you will experience a full range of weather conditions: snow, sleet, ice, rain, thunderstorms and fog. What a blessing! However, if you think that we spend our winters inside, you are wrong. We have Loppet Cross Country Ski Festival  and winter activities for the whole family. Lake Harriet is one of the favorite local spots for ice fishing. It is a required sport if you plan to live here. Want to join? See more details here .

Minneapolis Lakes

You probably already know that the state of Minnesota is known as the state of 10,000 lakes. But what you didn’t know is that we have more shoreline than California, Florida and Hawaii combined! Just over 90,000 miles, to be precise. Here you can enjoy water activities at all times, no matter the season. The City of Minneapolis area is home to more than 22 lakes. Even though there are so many lakes, they are pretty much always brimming with people. So it isn’t surprising that Minnesota has one recreational boat per every six people, more than any other state. Locals often sail during the nice days. If you are moving here, don’t bother searching for auto transport quotes. You will only need a boat.

Minneapolis Parks

With 5,000 acres of park areas, Minneapolis has the best parks in the country. Precisely, 16.6% of the city is covered in parks and there are 770 square feet (72 m2) of parkland for each resident. The Trust for Public Land, in its 2013 parkscore ranking, reported that “Mini Apple” had the best park system among the 50 most populous U.S. cities. See all the wonderful greenness you can enjoy when taking a walk in this beautiful place here . Although we are not exactly the greenest city in the States, we certainly have the highest number of golfers per capita in the nation. Locals worship nature and enjoy all that she can give us. Almost 10,000 cyclists hit the roads, paths and trails every single day. Even during extreme colds, people carry out daily tasks riding bikes. This is why Minneapolis is ranked as one of the best cities for bikes in the world! With 11 acres of more than 40 permanent art installations, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the largest urban sculpture garden in the country. You will probably need a whole day just to visit these gigantic works. Whenever I feel down, I like to go and sit by “Spoonbridge and Cherry” sculpture. It always reminds me how small everything actually is. To find out more about all the wonders of the Garden, click here .

Shopping in Minneapolis

If you think that we ride bikes and walk all day, you are wrong. We love spending money, just like everyone in U.S. Maybe even more than others, since the biggest shopping mall in the country is located in Minneapolis. The Mall of America, located in the suburb of Bloomington, is the size of 78 football fields. Great place to go shopping.
